On October 9, the Russian Academic Youth Theater will present the play "Son" based on the play by Florian Zeller on the stage of the A. Navoi Bolshoi Theater as part of the International Theater Festival.

The premiere took place on October 28, 2020. The play was awarded the main prize of the Union of Theater Workers of the Russian Federation "Nail of the Season" (2022).

Yuri Butusov, one of the most paradoxical Russian theater directors, presents his interpretation of the play "Son", which closes the trilogy of the French playwright Florian Zeller "Mother", "Father", "Son". Having found his key to Shakespeare, Brecht, Chekhov, Ibsen, Butusov searches for human content and depth, turning this time to modern material.

Yuri BUTUSOV: "This play is about Hamlet in each of us. In forced compromises, in the need to agree with what he does not want to put up with, a person destroys his nature, faith in an ideal world, what Shakespeare called "the quintessence of all that lives." Idealism, the rejection of injustice in a person cannot be destroyed. And nothing can be changed here. And whether it is right or wrong - everyone decides for himself.
And this is also a very "Russian play." Reading the story of this boy, you think about Ivanov, Zilov and all the "superfluous people" of Russian literature. It is not about teenage depression, but about those existential questions that we all face." Characters and performers
